The usually indicates a problem with the installer files and you need to do a cleanup and reinstall.
Download latest iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime

Download the MS Installer Cleanup utility:
The page also includes instructions
Uninstall iTunes/Quicktime using this method
If you can’t uninstall a component, just press on with the instructions.
Run the MS Installer cleanup utility
Remove references to the programs you uninstalled
Now install the stand alone Quicktime.
Check that it works then install iTunes.
