Every time a circus (to come) CAME to our town, I and my friend Joey (to think) THOUGHT of nothing else but the circus and we (to be) WERE no good at all at school.
The circus (to be) WAS everything to us. When we (to hear) HEARD that the circus was coming, we (to run) RAN all around the town in excitement. And when the circus (to be) WAS at last in town we (to like) LIKED nothing better than to watch the workers, we (to carry) CARRIED water for the elephant, we (to show) SHOWED the smaller boys about the place. It (to be) great fun.
This time the whole trouble (to start) STARTED when Joey (to run) RAN into the classroom one day, ten minutes late, and without taking off his hat and explaining, why he (to be) WAS late, (to cry) CRIED, “Hey, Aram, why (to be) ARE you here? The circus (to be) IS in town!”
I (to feel) FELT so happy when I (to hear) HEARD the news, that I (to jump) JUMPED up at once and (to run) RAN out of the room. The teacher (to shout) SHOUTED to me, “Ram, stay in this room. You (to hear) me, Aram?” DO YOU HEAR ME, Aram?
I (to hear) HEARD her very well but I (not to care*) DIDN'T CARE. The minute the circus (to arrive) ARRIVED in town we (to be) WERE out of school.
