1. The parks of London provide a welcome contrast to the great built-up areas. St.James's Park, Green Park, Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens are linked together. They form 313 hectares of open parkland in the heart of London.
There are eight “royal parks” in London — parks which are officially the hereditary possessions of the Crown but to which the public is given access. They are (in alphabetical order): Bushy Park, Green Park, Greenwich Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Regent’s Park, Richmond Park, and St. James’s Park. Dogs are allowed in all of the royal parks; in some parts of the parks, however, dogs are either not allowed or need to be on a leash (including “ecologically sensitive sites, children’s play areas, restaurants, cafes and some sports areas”).
At certain times of the year, dogs need to be kept away from deer, ground nesting birds and other wildlife. There are signs in the parks telling you which areas to avoid, and the Royal Parks agency has also issued a helpful booklet with more details about dogs in the royal parks. For each park, it tells you where dogs are not permitted, and where dogs must be on leashes. Otherwise, it appears, off-leash dogs under voice control are welcome to romp.
Regent's Park is one of the most famous Royal Garden in London.
When I finally got to Regent's Park... I felt so lost! How can a park be so darn huge? I had seen really big parks in Australia, but this one... it's humongous! We had to rely on the park map to move around and I literally lost my way inside the park!
Regent's Park is one of the most beautiful and clean public park I had ever been to. They have lots of greens, trees, scrubs, flowers and wild animals! I see squirrels running here and there, and swans, ducks and pigeons are abundant! My favourite part of the park is the Queen Mary's Rose Garden. I am not a rose person but when you see a garden planted with hundred kinds of beautiful blooming English roses of all colors, trust me, you will suddenly like roses.
I wonder how the London government managed to look after such a huge park and maintain it in such good shape. We had a nice picnic lunch on the grass carpet under the warm sun. It was such a nice day for everyone.
2.Hyde Park in the borough of Westminster, London. It covers more than 340 acres (138 hectares) and is bordered on the east by Mayfair and on the west by Kensington Gardens.
Rowers on the Serpentine in Hyde Park, London. The park shares a large curved lake with its western neighbour; the portion of the lake in Kensington Gardens is known as the Long Water, whereas the Hyde Park portion is called the Serpentine. The lake is used for boating in the summer and skating in the winter. In the park’s northeastern corner, near Marble Arch, is Speakers’ Corner, which has long been a centre of free speech for soapbox orators. Also in the park are the Hudson Bird Sanctuary, a bandstand, large fountains, a ranger’s lodge, and, in the southeastern corner of the park, the statue of Achilles (1822), which recalls the duke of Wellington’s victories. Not far from the statue, and nearly adjoining the park, is the Wellington Museum (1952), which is housed in a structure built in 1771–78. Nearby starts a celebrated riding track, Rotten Row, which traverses the park westward.
Hyde Park was formerly a royal hunting preserve. It was opened to the public in the early 17th century. In 1851 it was the location of the Great Exhibition, which was held in the newly constructed Crystal Palace, a massive greenhouse-style exhibition hall that incorporated many of the park’s trees under its roof.
