The main film character Shurik who has been sent to one of the mountainous republics to collect folklore falls in love with an attractive girl Nina/ Suddenly she is kidnap with the aim to give her in marriage by force. Ingenuous and kind Shurik doesn't manage to understand at once what is going on. But then he releases "the Caucasian captive" with the help of his best friend.
